Romans 8:26-27
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our
weakness. For we do not know what to
pray for as we ought, but the Spirit
himself intercedes for us with groanings
too deep for words. And he who searches hearts
knows what is the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for the saints
according to the will of God.” ESV
Our family has one of those redneck rubber pools. A friend said, “You better keep the water right.”
So I bought these water-testing sticks. I didn’t know you need to have a PHD in chemistry to be able to read the five different results that only show up after fifteen seconds and give you less than ten seconds to record!
Frustrated, I just buy all sorts of pool chemicals I see on the shelf for a pool, and dump a little of this and a little of that in.
The day after my wife shoots me an email that reads, “The pool is green.”
Then I’m reminded of recently being at a good buddy’s house at his pool, his shimmering crystal clear, not a hint of slimy-green pool. When I whine about my illiteracy of pool-tester kit strips, he simply says, “Why don’t you just take a sample of water down to so-and-sos, he’ll test it for free, and tell you exactly what to use. That’s what we do.”
Huh.
There are days in the pool of my life there is love, joy, peace, patience, and kindness from walking in the Holy Spirit. But in no time that old flesh creeps in like algae on the face of a pool.
If I go about fixing it myself, I’ll just make the pool of my spiritual-life even worse. But if I take my life to God who can read the levels of my emotions, situation, and spirituality perfectly; in no time He can get my life back on the tracks.
