Figure or Figured?

Isaiah 46:9b-11
“I am God, and there is none like me,
 declaring the end from the beginning
and from ancient times things not yet
done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
calling a bird of prey from the east, the
man of my counsel from a far country.
 I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass;
 I have purposed, and I will do it.”

               “Did you know you are a friend of the most brilliant person in the universe?” As John Eldredge said those words I thought to myself, “Then why don’t I listen to God every single time?” I guess that’s what brokenness is. Your heart and mind know what you should do, but they don’t have the “want to” because fear, wounding, and sin have discombobulated our spiritual compass. I believe it happens to all of us on this earth, and nobody comes through unscathed.

               You might ask, “Where’s it all end? What do I do with that reality?”

               We know the answer is to do what God tells us to do, but this needs to wed with another truth:  God’s purpose for our life is bigger than our ability to mess up and fail. In fact, he’s built those factors into the equation. If you don’t believe me, just word it backwards by saying, “My ability to fail and make mistakes is bigger than God’s purpose.” Doesn’t work ehh?

               The balanced approach is to do what all the other spiritually successful, yet broken people of the Bible did. Just surrender to God’s purpose for your life. Yeah, we don’t deserve it, merit it, or have the strength in and of ourselves to do or fulfill it, but God’s power always prevails in his purpose. Instead of trying to figure life out, just know the most brilliant person in the universe has already it figured out, and our brokenness doesn’t break him.
