He Ran the Webs (from 2014)

From our “oldie but goodie” collection 🙂

Deuteronomy 31:8
“It is the LORD who goes
before you. He will be with you;
he will not leave you or forsake you.
Do not fear or be dismayed.”
ESV

I was on a hike with a friend, and he’s in front saying, “It’d be nice if a six-foot-five jogger would’ve ran this trail before us and taken out all of the spider webs before we got here.”
I’m thinking to myself, “Heh-heh, I’ll just settle for my six-three buddy hiking in front of me swatting with a maple switch.” That worked out for about the first mile. Then I was on point practicing sword techniques on the cobwebs.
I don’t think we realize how much God has blazed the trail of grace in front of us so that we could enjoy the path of life that God has set before us. I kind of feel bad for John the Baptist, being the cousin of Jesus, chewing on locust, wearing funky cloths, living out a whole lot more holy lifestyle than me by fasting and preaching all the time, getting beheaded for taking a stand, and then Jesus says this: “Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”
What? Did you read that? Doesn’t sound fair that Jesus, John, and countless other martyrs had to run through the cobwebs to give us what we now have: A completely whole and holy relationship with God that is forged by grace through faith.
Grace isn’t fair because we don’t get what we deserve…we get what Jesus deserved. In Christ, sin is forever removed between us and God by grace through faith because Jesus got what we deserved. So run this race with all your might, because in Christ, there are no cobwebs keeping you from God.
